Hi! I am Irene de la Torre and I was born in Madrid in 1988. Although my mother tongue is Spanish, I spent my childhood and adolescence in Mallorca, where I soaked my ears in my grandmother’s Catalan and the Catalan we were taught at school. I also grew up surrounded by books, and from an early age I wrote my own stories and added read books to my bookshelf. Since then, my passion for languages, for writing and for literature hasn’t stopped growing.

I later realized that I had to turn my passion into my job, so I decided to study Translation and Interpreting at the University of Granada, Spain, specializing in English, French and Dutch, and finishing my studies in Ghent, Belgium. Since 2014 I have been a full-time freelance translator, combining literary translation with the writing, proofreading and translation of all kinds of texts from Dutch, English, French and Catalan into Spanish. I work mainly for publishing houses, but I also receive assignments from direct clients and translation agencies.

Juggling between my work as a translator and my literary creation, I am the author of the short stories collection Crema solar (RIL, 2026), and I am currently writing a longer narrative work. In 2023 I received the Honorable Mention of the Energheia Prize for one of my short stories, and I have published my work in several literary magazines, like the long haul literary magazines Quimera in Spain and De Revisor in The Netherlands.

In addition, my great love for books leads me to send once in a while translations proposals of foreign books that I love and that have not yet found a publisher in the Spanish literary scene.
