Press, events, grants and more

Throughout my career, I have been awarded with several grants, such as the one of translator from Dutch into Spanish in the first edition of the CELA Europe project (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists), or as a resident translator in several translation houses, such as at the Translator’s House Amsterdam, at the Translation House Looren or at the Collège International des Traducteurs Littéraires (CITL) in Arles. I have also been invited to speak about literary translation at literature festivals, such as Capítulo Uno, Hay Festival or Crossing Border, and I have participated in several literary events. In this section I tell you a bit about all this and show you some interviews about me and my work, among other things.

Prizes and awards

Energheia Cultural Association and Quimera Magazine

Honourable mention in the Energheia Spain 2023 Literary Prize for the short story Hubo un castillo (There was a castle), published in issue 480 of the magazine Quimera, December of 2023.

Grants

CELA Europe (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists)

In the first edition of the CELA (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists) program, which ran from 2017 to 2019, I received a grant as a translator from Dutch into Spanish.

The Chronicles

In 2022 I participated in The Chronicles project as part of the Crossing Border 2022 festival (The Hague) and translated Dutch writer Anne van den Dool‘s five short stories from Dutch into Spanish about her own experiences of the festival under the guidance of literary translator Gonzalo Fernández Gómez.

Vertalersfabriek

Residency at the Translator’s House in Amsterdam after the Crossing Border 2022 festival, where I worked on the work of Dutch writer Anne van den Dool under the guidance of literary translator Gonzalo Fernández Gómez. It was an intensive week of translation under the supervision of the mentor at the headquarters of the Dutch Foundation for Literature.

Archipelagos

Stay at the Collège International des Traducteurs Littéraires (Arles, France) for the Archipelagos project, a grant for the literary scouting and research project on titles by French authors not published in Spanish in order to write reading reports and promote them to Spanish publishers. Poetry International and Bombing of poems

Invited as translator from Dutch into Spanish of poems by several Dutch speaking authors, such as Bab Gons or Marjolijn van Heemstra, included as bookmarks in a performance in which they are dropped from a helicopter to simulate a bombing on the same day as the bombing of Rotterdam in the Second World War. May 2025.

ELV (Expertisecentrum Literair Vertalen)

The ELV is a center of excellence dedicated to literary translation from and into Dutch, based in Utrecht (The Netherlands). I was granted a mentorship for the translation of Lotte Lentes’ book, La arena del desierto (Lengua de Trapo, 2020), and I also received a mentorship for the completion of the translation of Neske Beks, El laberinto Morrison (Kaótica Libros, 2024). The mentorships consisted of guidance and revision of the translation of the books by the literary translator and professor Goedele de Sterck.

Dutch Foundation for Literature

Grant awarded to Kaótica Libros Spanish publishing house for the publication of my translation from Dutch into Spanish of Neske Beks’ book, El laberinto Morrison. Grant awarded to Lengua de Trapo for the publication of my translation from Dutch into Spanish of Lotte LentesLa arena del desierto. Grant awarded to the publishing house Geoplaneta for the publication of my translation with Beatriz Jiménez López from Dutch into Spanish of Auke Kok’s book Johan Cruyff. Siempre al ataque.

Residencies

Translator’s House Amsterdam

Fifteen-day residency in March 2024 for the translation from Dutch into Spanish of the book El laberinto Morrison, of the Belgian author Neske Beks, published by the Spanish publishing house Kaótica Libros, (December 2024). The Vertalershuis (or Translator’s House) in Amsterdam is funded by the Dutch Foundation for Literature.

Translation House Looren

Ten-day residency in June 2024 for the completion of the translation from Dutch into Spanish of the book El laberinto Morrison (De Kleine Morrison), of the Belgian author Neske Beks, published by the Spanish publishing house Kaótica Libros, (December 2024). The Translation House Looren is a Swiss institution located in Wernetshausen where translators from all over the world reside for the translation of literary works.

Collège International des Traducteurs Littéraires (CITL)

Fifteen-day residency in August 2024 for the Archipelagos project, a grant for the literary scouting and research of titles by French authors not published in Spanish in order to write reading reports and promote them to Spanish publishers. The Collège International des Traducteurs Littéraires is located in Arles, France, and offers courses and residencies for literary translators, among other things.

Hay Festival

Guest to the festival for the reading of an excerpt from my Spanish translation of the Dutch writer Lotte Lentes at Hay Festival Segovia 2018 as part of the CELA program.

Capítulo Uno

Guest to the festival for the presentation of the book La arena del desierto, published by the Spanish publishing house Lengua de Trapo, written by the Dutch writer Lotte Lentes, and for the reading of a fragment of my translation into Spanish; and for the reading of fragments and poem by the Dutch writer Joost Oomen. October 2021.

Crossing Border

Invited to the Crossing Border 2022 festival (The Hague) to talk about literary translation and the relationship between writer and translator.

Efímera III

Invited to the festival Efímera III, literature festival for the presentation of the 16th issue of the Spanish literary magazine La gran belleza, with the theme ‘Ahora’ (Now), published in March 2022. Participation in a round table at La Casa del Lector in Madrid to discuss my translation, from Dutch into Spanish, of the short story written by the Dutch author Joost Oomen, La oca en la Luna (original title Het eendje op de maan). March 2022.

Poetry Slam Madrid

Translation of two poems by Carmien Michels from Dutch into Spanish for screening at the International Poetry Slam in Madrid. December 2017.
